TPO at a Glance

What is Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO)?

Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO) or Rubber Chemical Oil (RCO) is alternative oil produced by using pyrolysis technology, end-of-life tires can yield various valuable chemicals including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX), and limonene.

TPO has a deep black color that reflects the color of used tires. It also has a strong odor. TPO is used as an alternative fuel for boiler burner engines that previously used diesel, gas, residue, etc.

TPO is now widely used as one of the alternative fuels replacing industrial diesel. Besides being more economical, it also produces higher calories, resulting in savings of up to 25% – 30%.

The production of TPO also yields Carbon Black (Rubber Carbon Black) and steel wire scrap, which can be reused as raw materials for various industries. TPO itself can also be further processed into higher-value products, making it a promising source of energy.

In addition to TPO production, PT. Kacima Anugerah Perkasa also sells TPO both locally and exports internationally.

Advantages of TPO

Why use Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO)?

There are many advantages in using TPO as alternative fuel. Here are a few of the most
significant advantages.

Cost Effective
Keterangan Diesel TPO
Price per liter** Rp.16.500,- Contact us for the

Monthly cost Rp. 264.000.000,- Rp. 96.000.000,-
Yearly cost Rp. 3.168.000.000,- Rp. 1.152.000.000,-
Cost savings**   40 – 50%

Replacing diesel with TPO helps to save up to 40 – 50% cost and up to 30% calories.

**Savings in calories (diesel

25% – 30%

Replacing diesel with TPO is more efficient as it produces 25 – 30% more calories compared to diesel.

Diesel = 9.240 kkal/liter, TPO = 10.400 kkal/liter.

In addition to producing TPO, pyrolysis also yields rubber powder, steel wire scraps, and carbon
black, which are valuable for various industrial needs. Carbon black, one of the products
generated, is a crucial component in tire manufacturing to enhance flexibility and strength. It is
also used as a pigment in the production of plastics, rubber, and more.

TPO Application

Where can TPO be used?

TPO is commonly used as a substitute for diesel, residual gas, and coal as fuel for boiler burner
machines. It can also be used for cooking stoves or fire furnaces. TPO is safe for boiler machines
because it is rubber-based and does not leave residue or deposits when the machine finishes
operating.

How to use TPO?

Adjust the position of the TPO to match the height of the burner so that the suction/pressure
pump to the nozzle works optimally and the TPO flows smoothly. It is recommended to use a
standard burner nozzle (hole diameter remains original). This ensures that when using TPO,
there is no need to adjust the air window opening (air/oxygen mixture during combustion),
which affects the calorific value produced when the TPO is burned.

If there is no change to the nozzle/sprayer but exhaust smoke is coming out of the chimney
(exhaust), it is because the air/oxygen mixture is too high, and the air window opening needs
adjustment.

Do not forget to add a filter to the line before the burner when using TPO.

The types of burners that can use TPO are jet burners and rotary cup burners.

*Tests are done with water tube/fire tube/thermal oils boiler model.

TPO can be used for…

  • Incinerator
  • Fire Tube Boiler
  • Hot Water Boiler
  • Water Tube Boiler
  • Light Oil Burners
  • Heavy Oil Burners
  • etc.
